Esther Ndlovu is a gifted photographer. When she is offered an assignment which is beyond her wildest dreams, a chance of a lifetime, she cannot believe her luck. The chance to work with a world famous wildlife photographer from America on a book of photographs of the beautiful Kalahari Desert is something that well-known photographers would dream about doing—and she is only a young, unknown girl. She arrives to meet Victor Hart only to find that he has been injured and cannot take her after all. However, he wants her to carry out her assignment on her own, with the help of his apparently unpleasant assistant, Jack Hansen.
