Dangerous Waters by Maurice Sotabinda

On leave from the town and back in his home village, Sah James finds there are many things in which he cannot believe. For example, there is said to be a fairy in the lake below the village who kills anyone who ventures into the water. Sah James has always dismissed such stories as superstition – until the day he shoots a monkey in a tree and, to his horror, finds a human corpse lying in its place. Then another mysterious death occurs at the lake and more curious things begin to happen to his friends. Unable to interest the police in his theories without proof, Sah James realises he must clear up the mysteries himself and provide the authorities with the hard evidence they require, whatever the personal risk involved.
