Gezani and his wife, LaMsibi, rejoice at the birth of their daughter, Kiki, late in their marriage. Determined to educate her, they look forward to a bright future for her. But disaster strikes and the once-prosperous Gezani is forced to leave his homeland in Swaziland to seek work at the mines in Johannesburg. Kiki is sent away to be educated and life proves hard for her, living with an embittered aunt. The news of her parents’ untimely deaths is but one incident in a chain of events which threatens to overcome her, but Kiki is made of sterner stuff. . .
